Welcome to new and returning students and researchers at King's!

King's Careers & Employability is here to help you prepare for your future. We offer impartial advice and support to all King’s students, researchers, and recent alumni to help you navigate your next steps and achieve lifelong success.

It doesn’t matter if you don’t know what you want to do next, you have some ideas, or you’re ready to take action and want our help. The great thing about your careers and employability learning is that you work through it as it suits you - from your first days, or after you complete your programme of study.

Our integrated approach to employability and our dedicated teams of careers professionals will support you to identify a meaningful career path through interactive online resources, careers appointments, events, and more.

Your career journey

Our teams have been working hard to develop a programme of events and activities over the months ahead that will help you Discover your options, Focus your ideas or Action your existing plan.

That's why we ask you during your enrolment some key questions on where you are in your career journey - it all helps us to provide a range of services that can be tailored to your own learning, and when you first log-in to our careers portal, King's CareerConnect, you'll see that you will have been assigned to one of these three terms, helping you and my colleagues signpost you to the most appropriate content at that time.

We know you will explore other ideas, perhaps have your mind opened to new experiences or networks and it's OK to move from one of these to another in any order - there's no linear pathway and we love working with students and researchers who are balancing different ideas, experiences and opportunities.

Getting to know us

Ensure you check out our activities during Welcome to King's on the app, including our webinars introducing you to our services. You can also meet members of my team at the Welcome Hubs at Denmark Hill, Guy's and Strand on 18-19 September.

What's coming up

Our key events are organised into Focused Festivals around sectors including banking, health, government, cultural industries, law, technology, sustainability, international development and more. You'll find panels, workshops, discussions and conversations and much more!

Among this semester's highlights, I've picked out a few ideas you may wish to explore:

You can also explore a range of workshops and events as part of our King's Edge Festival (25 September - 6 October) and apply to our King's Experience Awards which open up in autumn.

Specialist support

Alongside our core services, we provide specialist resources and activities for a range of different audiences, including Careers+, for students with a disability and UK-domiciled students under-represented in higher education and specialist appointments for PhDs and researchers.

You can also find dedicated KEATS content for international students, students with a disability, parents & carers, career changers and masters students together with resources targeted towards Black, Asian & Diverse Heritage audiences, LGBTQ+ students and female and non-binary students.

In some faculties, such as King's Business School, you may also have localised careers support.

Questions or Queries?

If you have any queries about our services or your own career journey, building your knowledge, attributes and skills please check out our website where you'll find lots of information and links to our platforms and resources together with information on how to find us in person, and contact details.

Top Tip!

Make sure to set up your profile on King's CareerConnect, selecting the types of organisations, opportunities and updates you want to receive from us and employers.

You'll gain more from the portal the more tailored your selections - but you can update these at any time, or opt-out if it becomes overwhelming.

We'll remind you to update your profile at least annually, to ensure you're still receiving the right information from us.

I hope you have a great Welcome fortnight meeting new friends from your course, residences and through KCLSU's societies and clubs, student media and sports teams and look forward to seeing you at a careers event or activity very soon.
