Celebrating the impact of our alumni volunteers at King’s College London.

More than 1,200 alumni around the world volunteered with King’s during the 2025-26 academic year, contributing their time, expertise and enthusiasm across more than 250 activities.

Their collective impact was felt across the King’s community and beyond, from supporting students and inspiring prospective applicants to strengthening alumni networks and contributing to local causes. While every volunteering experience was different, all were united by a shared commitment to making a difference and giving back to King’s.

Here we celebrate some of the inspiring ways our alumni have made an impact.

Supporting current students

Supporting students remains one of the most popular ways alumni choose to volunteer.

Their experience and expertise helped students build confidence, develop professional skills and take their next steps.

For alumni mentor Deya Demerdzhieva (International Relations, 2019), their Leadership Mentor Programme experience proved rewarding not only for her mentee but for herself.

She explains: ‘Would I recommend volunteering to other alumni? Absolutely. It’s only an hour or so a month and you see the impact almost immediately. You’ll get as much out of it as you give.’

Amira Modi (Mathematics and Management, 2002) volunteered with both King’s Business School and the King’s Plus programme, helping students from widening participation backgrounds prepare for life beyond university.

‘I love to give back and meet new people,’ says Amira. ‘This opportunity with King’s gives me a chance to reconnect with the kind of up-and-coming students that are about to enter the workplace.’

Building global communities

Across our international networks, alumni leaders organised events, welcomed new graduates, created professional networking opportunities and brought King’s alumni together long after graduation.

One such volunteer is Hong Boon Toh (Biomedical Sciences Research, 2005), who serves on the King’s Alumni Society Singapore committee, one of our most active international alumni groups.

‘I attended my first alumni event back in 2018 and immediately felt the sense of connection,’ he says. ‘Joining the committee was my way of paying it forward and helping build an even stronger alumni community here in Singapore.’

Inspiring future students

This year, alumni supported offer-holder events, spoke with prospective students and shared their experiences to help applicants understand what studying at King’s is really like.

When Blake Ledna (Geopolitics, Territory & Security, 2020) volunteered at a Washington offer-holder event, one conversation left a lasting impression.

He tells us more: ‘One of the offer holders reached out to me and we chatted for a few days about my experience and some concerns she had about moving to the UK and being in a totally different country.

‘In the end, she decided to go to King’s, and I’ve heard back from her since that she’s having a great time.’

Global Day of Service

In March, alumni volunteers came together for King’s Global Day of Service, contributing their time and energy to support causes in local communities around the world.

From environmental initiatives to community projects, volunteers demonstrated the collective impact of the King’s network when people come together around a shared purpose. The annual event continues to show how alumni can create positive change beyond the university while strengthening connections with fellow graduates.

Whatever the activity, our volunteers have made an incredible difference throughout 2025-26 and contributed the equivalent of over £110,000 in economic value.

To every alum who volunteered this year, thank you for your generosity, expertise and commitment. The confidence you inspire, the connections you create and the opportunities you open up have a lasting impact on students, alumni and communities across the world.
