Senior Health Economist

Biography

Adrian Gheorghe is a senior health economist with extensive experience in leading health sector reform and health economics research, having held executive and advisory roles in government (National Health Insurance House and Ministry of Health in Romania), development consulting (Oxford Policy Management), academia (Imperial College London and London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine), and civil society (as co-founder of the Romanian Health Observatory).

His work to date has focused on several topics:

  1. Measuring the costs and cost-effectiveness of public health interventions, particularly for chronic conditions like cancer and cardiovascular disease;
  2. The design and analysis of health financing policies (e.g., fiscal space for health, health insurance, aid transition);
  3. Priority-setting institutions in the health sector, including methods and processes for Health Technology Assessment;
  4. Capacity building for health economics and health financing. More recently, he has led health economics work in STARMeds and R4HC-MENA research projects.
