Biography

Agnieszka Kasperska is a Research Associate at King's Business School, King's College London, affiliated with the King's Global Institute for Women's Leadership (GIWL).

Her research examines how flexible and remote working arrangements shape careers, gender equality, and family life across Europe. By uncovering how organisational cultures and societal norms penalise workers who deviate from the "ideal worker" standard — particularly women, parents, and those using flexible work — her findings offer practical insights for employers, policymakers, and HR professionals seeking to build fairer, more productive workplaces.

She is currently involved in the TransEuroWorkS project (Horizon Europe; PI: Professor Heejung Chung), examining how European welfare states can better respond to the changing world of work, with a particular focus on why workers overwork, how cultural contexts shape this behaviour, and what it means for wellbeing and inequality.

Her areas of expertise include:

  • flexible and remote working
  • gender and family inequalities in the labour market
  • work–life balance and work–family conflict
  • parental leave policies
  • organisational culture and managerial decision-making
  • cross-national comparative research
  • advanced quantitative methods including survey experiments and large-scale international datasets

Agnieszka's research has been published in leading peer-reviewed journals including Work, Employment and Society, Journal of Family Issues, Community, Work and Family, Personnel Review, and PLOS ONE. She has also contributed a chapter to an edited volume published by Edward Elgar Publishing (Families, the Welfare State and Resilience, 2025). Her work has also reached broader audiences through media coverage, including radio broadcasts on LBC Radio UK and a podcast for the HR Review portal.

She is a recipient of the prestigious START Fellowship from the Foundation for Polish Science (2026), awarded to the top 100 young scientists in Poland. During her PhD, she received multiple research and travel grants totalling over 90,000 EUR. She was also awarded the Programme Prize at the University of Manchester for best overall performance on her Master's programme (2018).

Prior to joining King's Business School, Agnieszka was a Research Assistant at the Interdisciplinary Centre for Labour Market and Family Dynamics (LabFam) at the University of Warsaw (2020–2025), where she conducted research on labour market inequalities, gender, family, and social policy. Before that, she worked as an Economic Consultant at the United Nations in Nairobi, Kenya (2018–2020), contributing to the development of various socio-economic development projects and reports. She completed her PhD in Quantitative Psychology and Economics (Distinction) at the University of Warsaw, with a thesis entitled "The Flexibility Trap? Work from Home and Career Advancement across Europe", supervised by Professor Anna Matysiak and Dr Daniela Bellani. She holds an MSc in International HRM and Comparative Industrial Relations (Distinction) from the University of Manchester, and a BSc in Psychology from the University of the West of England, Bristol.
