Dr Aisling Ryan is a Research Fellow at The Dickson Poon School of Law, King’s College London. She is a Co-Investigator on the Wellcome Trust Discovery Award led by Professor Joe Tomlinson, ‘What can bureaucratic justice do for mental health?’. Aisling collaborates on projects through the Administrative Fairness Lab, a research group focused on advancing understanding of the intersection of law, administration, and society.

Before joining King’s College London, Aisling was a Research Fellow at the University of York, jointly appointed by the Administrative Fairness Lab and Institute of Mental Health Research at York to develop a research agenda on the intersection of administrative fairness and healthcare. Aisling is a solicitor (non-practising) and previously acted as an independent adjudicator of landlord-tenant disputes. She completed her PhD on administrative discretion at first instance at University College Cork, and holds an LLM from Trinity College Dublin.

Aisling’s primary areas of research are public law and administrative justice. She focuses on everyday interactions between individuals and the state through public service interfaces and administrative justice mechanisms. Aisling draws on empirical methods and feminist approaches to investigate how people experience and understand the administrative state, and builds on this knowledge to develop theory on administrative law in context.
