
Biography
Dr Aleksandra Kubat is a Lecturer in Global Affairs at the School of Global Affairs, King’s College London. Previously, she was a Lecturer in China Studies at the Lau China Institute and taught on China at the Department of International Development at King’s. She is a collaborator of the newly established Methods Centre in the Faculty of Social Science and Public Policy.
Before crossing over to China Studies, Aleksandra trained as a sociologist at the Institute of Sociology, University of Warsaw with an emphasis on the methods and methodologies of sociological research and the history of sociological thought.
Aleksandra teaches a wide portfolio of modules on MSc Global Affairs and MSc China and Globalisation. Her teaching spans critical international political economy, Chinese economic policies and international relations, China’s global governance and engagement with the Global South as well as postgraduate-level courses on research methods and dissertation writing. She is a Fellow of the UK Higher Education Academy.
Aleksandra is also the Departmental Lead on Careers and Employability for Global Institutes, and currently heads the Global Institutes Artificial Intelligence Working Group.

- Wargaming (simulations) for Contemporary China Studies
Aleksandra’s primary research interest is in Chinese domestic politics, especially party-state bureaucracies and party ideology, and more recently, the application of wargaming (simulations) to teaching in China Studies. She also dabbles in OSINT for China research.
Aleksandra leads the Authoritarianism and Populism Research Group, and runs Chinese Politics Study Group, an informal group supporting PhD students and advanced postgraduate taught students interested in academic analysis of Chinese domestic politics.
