Alice Quinton

PhD Student

Biography

Alice is a MRC-DTP funded PhD student within the Re:Spect Research Group (2021-2025). Supervised by Professor Francesca Happe, Professor Andrea Danese and Dr Freya Rumball, her research explores post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) in autistic children and young people.

Alice’s current research uses a mixed methods approach to investigate pathways of risk in autistic children for developing PTSD, and hopes to inform how PTSD is recognised, diagnosed, and treated in autistic young people. Her interests broadly revolve around widening accessibility of mental healthcare. She is committed to understanding how mental health develops throughout childhood, and is influenced by co-occurring diagnoses and life events.

Before her PhD, Alice worked as a research assistant at the Psychopharmacology and Emotion Lab (PERL) at Oxford (2020-2021), focusing on the inflammatory mechanisms of depression. Prior to that, she gained a BSc(Hons) in Biomedical Science (Neuroscience) at Cardiff University (2014-2018) and an MSc in Cognitive and Therapeutic Neuroscience from the University of Oxford (2019-2020).

Beyond her PhD work, she is a student representative, volunteers as an honorary assistant psychologist for the National Psychology Clinic and hosts the Autism Research (ARCH) seminars.

Alice enjoys podcasts, Taylor Swift, and walking other people’s dogs in South London's parks.
