Anna is a PhD student in the Department of Geography at King's College London, where she is studying the effects of climate change and climate change solutions on racialised communities in the UK. Her project, Places of Contestation: Locating Racial Inequalities in Climate and Transition Risks in the UK is sponsored by the London Interdisciplinary Social Science Doctoral Training Partnership (LISS DTP).
Anna is also Research Assistant on Hopeful Futures, a King’s Climate & Sustainability Seed Funding project managed by the Policy Institute, with the Department of Geography and King’s Culture. Hopeful Futures is exploring how the use of new interventions within deliberative forums can expand the scope of climate policy options and build more hopeful visions for the future.

Thesis title: 'Places of Contestation: Locating Racial Inequalities in Climate and Transition Risks in the UK'
Anna’s doctoral research project aims to understand how climate change affects people from black and ethnic minority groups in the UK.
It is thought that people from black and ethnic minority groups in Britain may experience risks from climate change that are different to those that affect other groups. The project explores the impact of climate change on daily life by speaking to people from black and ethnic minority groups about their experiences. In particular, Anna’s research asks whether action taken to manage climate change can reduce racial inequality.
The project considers these issues in relation to three of the big challenges we face because of climate change:
- Heating and cooling homes
- Adapting to heatwaves
- Reducing car dependence
The study is recruiting participants from black and ethnic minority communities in London and Leeds.
