In 2012 I completed my doctoral thesis in medical sociology, exploring mainstreaming professional strategies by practitioners of acupuncture and homeopathy in the UK. In later research projects I studied academisation as a professional strategy in paramedic practice in England (2018), and acupuncturists in higher education in the UK (2021). I am a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
