NIHR In-Practice Fellow

Biography

Aya Ayoub is a General Practitioner working in South-East London and she is also Chair of the Royal College of General Practitioners 'Junior International Committee’ for UK GP trainees and newly qualified GPs who are interested in International Health. In September 2022, Aya completed an MSc in Genomic Medicine at Imperial College, and has joined KCL as an NIHR In-Practice Research Fellow. Aya’s research interest is in the application of genomic medicine in primary care, particularly screening and risk stratification of common diseases; and her MSc project was a survey of UK GPs' knowledge and attitudes towards the use of polygenic risk scores for risk-stratified breast cancer screening. Aya’s NIHR fellowship at KCL is under the primary supervision of Dr Mariam Molokhia - a two-year feasibility study on improving the identification of familial hypercholesterolaemia (FH) in the community involving quantitative analysis of Lambeth DataNet data followed by qualitative analysis of patient and staff surveys to explore barriers and opportunities to improve FH identification in primary care.
