Biography

Benjamin Broman is a Lecturer in the Department of Political Economy at King’s College London. He received his PhD from Duke University and prior to joining King's was an Assistant Professor of Political Science at Purdue University, where he was also a faculty member of the Cornerstone Integrated Liberal Arts Program. His work has received the Elinor Ostrom Prize for the best article published in the Journal of Theoretical Politics and the Vincent and Elinor Ostrom Prize from the Public Choice Society.

Research interests

Benjamin is a historical political economist and applied formal theorist; his research focuses on the origins and evolution of political and economic institutions, the nature of authority and legitimacy, and the intersection of religion and politics. He uses game theory as well as quantitative analysis of original historical datasets, with an empirical focus on the institutional evolution of the British Isles. Methodologically, he is particularly interested in the interpretive problems of historical social science research.

PhD supervision

Benjamin would be interested in supervising students interested in studying political and economic institutions, religion and politics, or history and political economy.
