Biography
Dr Clare J FitzGerald is a Lecturer in Management & Organisation within the Department of Public Services Management & Organisation at King’s Business School, King’s College London.
Dr FitzGerald’s scholarship takes as a point of departure the transition from government to governance in many Western democracies – whereby public entities enable public service provision from dense cross-sectoral networks rather than delivering services themselves.
Clare uses qualitative and quantitative methods to understand how organisations independently and collectively deliver public value with a particular focus on the constraining and enabling powers of laws, rules and regulations, and administrative routines. Her interest in contemporary governance has led her to undertake applied research on:
- Complex government contracting
- Public procurement
- Public policy
- Performance management
- Emergency response
- Social investment
Dr FitzGerald’s work has been published in a range of journals including the International Public Management Journal, the Journal of Comparative Policy Analysis, Public Management Review, and Public Money & Management. Her book, Public Contracting for Social Outcomes, is available with Cambridge University Press, Elements in Public Policy. Clare serves on the Editorial Advisory Board of the International Journal of Public Sector Management.
Dr FitzGerald’s research has been funded by UK Research & Innovation Economic and Social Research Council and she has undertaken evaluations on behalf of UK Home Office and UK Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport. She is a Fellow of Advance HE and is a member of the Public Management Research Association and the UK Association for Public Administration.
Prior to joining the Faculty at King’s, Dr FitzGerald was a Research Fellow at the University of Oxford, Blavatnik School of Government. She is a proud graduate of North Carolina State University where she completed her PhD in Public Administration.
Dr FitzGerald is currently accepting new PhD students.
