Biography

Dan Abramson is a Professor of Practice of Mathematics Education in the Department of Mathematics, King’s College London. His work focuses on strengthening undergraduate mathematics education, widening participation in the mathematical sciences, and improving connections between schools, universities, policy and employers.

At King’s, Dan is leading a major institutional project to develop and launch a new mathematics degree aimed at widening participation in the mathematical sciences and supporting a broader range of student backgrounds, aspirations and progression routes. The programme focuses on maintaining mathematical depth while rethinking curriculum structure, pedagogy and assessment to better support student success and progression into further study and employment. The project has received start-up funding from the Campaign for the Mathematical Sciences.

Dan was the lead lecturer for Probability and Statistics 1 in the 2023/24 and 2024/25 academic years. He used this role to explore and pilot novel approaches to teaching and learning at scale, with a particular emphasis on student engagement, conceptual understanding and inclusive pedagogy.

Alongside his academic role, Dan is CEO of the University Maths Schools Network, the national body supporting England’s state-funded specialist mathematics schools, and a co-founder and Chair of Trustees of Axiom Maths, a charity delivering mathematics circles in schools across England. Previously, he was the founding Head Teacher of King’s College London Mathematics School. In 2023, he was awarded an OBE for Services to Education.
