Biography

Dr Daniel Hammersley was appointed as a Consultant Cardiologist at King’s College Hospital in 2024. He trained at Oxford University and Imperial College prior to undertaking speciality training in Cardiology and General Internal Medicine in London and the South-East. He undertook advanced training fellowships in Inherited Cardiac Conditions, Cardiac MRI, Heart Failure and Transplant Cardiology across The Royal Brompton, Harefield and King’s College Hospitals. Daniel was awarded a PhD from the Genetics and Imaging Section of the National Heart & Lung Institute of Imperial College, focusing on molecular characterisation, advanced imaging and risk stratification of patients with cardiomyopathies. Research undertaken during this fellowship yielded multiple high impact publications (including JACC, European Heart Journal & European Journal of Heart Failure) and Young Investigator nominations.

Clinically, Daniel is Service Lead for Inherited Cardiac Conditions at King’s College Hospital. He also has a weekly Cardiac MRI list and is part of the KCH Heart Failure team. He co-leads a monthly regional joint Cardiology-Neurology clinic for patients with cardiac manifestations of inherited neuromuscular diseases. His specialist interests are in the management of patients with cardiomyopathies and their families and cardiac genetics. Daniel is a member of the ESC Working Group for Myocardial and Pericardial Disease, the ESC Council for Cardiovascular Genomics, the Association for Inherited Cardiac Conditions, the British Society of Heart Failure, the British Society for CMR and the European Association of Cardiovascular Imaging.

Daniel is an Honorary Senior Lecturer at King’s College London, where he undertakes research into Inherited Cardiac Conditions. He has an interest in ethnic differences in cardiac phenotype, genetic architecture and clinical outcomes among patients with cardiomyopathies. Daniel lectures KCL medical students and is additionally Module Lead for the ‘Preventative Medicine & Exercise Prescription’ module on the ‘Sports & Exercise Medical Sciences’ BSc course.
