Dave is an Assessment Advisor at King’s College London, where they are currently transforming assessments across the Faculty of Social Science and Public Policy. Taking a programmatic approach, their work focuses on creating authentic, meaningful and engaging assessments that are a part (rather than a product) of the learning process, in line with the TASK framework.
With a background in Human Geography, Dave’s research cuts across the social sciences. Their PhD explores how young people develop climate politics amidst climate and environmental breakdown, (geo)political uncertainty, a mental health crisis, and economic conditions marked by both excess (overproduction/consumption) and scarcity (declining material conditions). This broad academic focus on the politics of everyday life has driven and shaped their engagements with interdisciplinary teaching and learning.
Dave has designed, taught and assessed courses from foundation year to doctorate level, including serving as a module convenor at Birkbeck College and as a Fellow for LSE100, the flagship interdisciplinary course at LSE. An Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, Dave is also an editor and chapter contributor to a forthcoming book on interdisciplinary education in the higher education sector. In their chapter, they explore some of the opportunities and challenges in realising students as active partners in teaching and learning.
