What is King's Academy?

We support King’s colleagues in providing the best teaching and learning experience for students. We focus on driving the continuous improvement in education and empower colleagues through evidence-informed practice.

Working in partnership with faculties, staff, students and external collaborators, we create opportunities that focus on improving education practices and promoting a progressive academic culture. These include events, workshops, partnerships, funding opportunities and more.

Our key focus areas

Professional development

We provide relevant opportunities for staff across all career stages to enhance their skills and foster a culture of continuous improvement. We encourage a supportive environment and provide platforms for colleagues to be recognised for their achievements.

Curriculum, assessment and programme design

We facilitate the continued development of excellence in teaching and learning at King’s. We do this by fostering a connected and collaborative approach to the design of the programmes of study on offer at King’s, through informed evidence-based practices on curriculum, assessment and programme design.

Leadership and scholarship

We support colleagues at all levels looking to develop their careers in leadership roles by providing training and mentorship. We provide opportunities and funding for education scholarship and encourage educators to engage meaningfully. This includes opportunites for reward and recognition, including fellowships.

Creating opportunities for King’s staff and students

Events

We host a range of events including workshops, conferences, networking opporutinies, awards and more.

These events help to improve the learning experience at King’s for both staff and students. We want our educators to be informed by the latest research and best practices, and to feel empowered in their careers.

Funded projects

Each year, we offer a series of funded projects designed to support staff in their professional development and deliver innovative and meaningful educational improvements.

Our projects align with key themes such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), inclusivity, assessment and feedback, sustainability, interdisciplinary collaboration and more. Each project aims to generate lasting impact on our University, our student experience and beyond.

Our collaborations

Faculty Liaisons

Education for Sustainability

Education for Sustainability (EfS) is an educational approach that gives students the knowledge and skills to help create a sustainable future. In collaboration with King’s Climate & Sustainability, we’re working to embed EfS across the curricula.

Student-staff partnership: Collab!

Collab! is a new initiative that gives staff and students the chance to work together to enhance education at King’s.

Student-staff partnerships offer a unique opportunity for staff and students to collaborate as equal partners to discuss ideas, find solutions and create new opportunities.

Some of the outcomes of Collab! so far include:

  • Recruitment of Student Partners in King’s Academy who work directly with students to gain insights and ideas. These inform our constant improvement of education projects, research, events and resources at King’s.

  • Launch of our new Curriculum Change projects, which allow students and staff to collaborate on ways to enhance the student learning experience.

International collaboration

The higher education sector is becoming increasingly interconnected across the world. Our initiatives towards enhancing international collaboration and outreach include:
