Professional Development

Professional development is an important aspect of continued career growth. At King's Academy, we provide our colleagues with opportunities, resources and support that enable them to deliver a world-class education. We also support them in their individual development and career progression.

We currently offer a wide range of programmes and opportunities for colleagues at all career stages, from early career educators, such as Graduate Teaching Assistants, to those developing in leadership roles.

No matter our colleagues career stage, we provide the space, resources and community to help them reflect, grow and enhance student learning. Discover our range of programmes below.

Learning & Teaching Programme

The Learning & Teaching Programme (LTP) is designed for educators who are new to King’s or would like to build the foundations of their teaching and learning skills. The programme allows our staff to ensure and uphold the highest standards of teaching and learning at King’s.

The programme is split into two sections:

  • The first section has a taught element and focuses on learning design, learning outcomes, assessment practices and inclusive education strategies.
  • The second section is an opportunity for colleagues to develop an action research project on teaching and learning within their own teaching environment. Colleagues present this project at the conclusion of the programme to an audience of their peers and educational leaders from a range of faculties.

Graduate Teaching Assistant (GTA) Development Programme

A Graduate Teaching Assistant (GTA) is a role for postgraduate students and researchers looking to start their career in teaching. The GTA Development Programme aims to prepare and support GTAs who contribute to teaching and learning at King’s and provide opportunities for continuing professional development and recognition.

The training we offer, via online and in-person workshops, is tailored to different disciplines, covering topics like seminar leading, teaching in health and sciences, and inclusive teaching strategies. It also provides continuous professional development opportunities, including workshops on marking, feedback, critical thinking and student engagement. Our goal is to give GTAs increased confidence and preparation for teaching roles and responsibilities within King's.
