Biography

Eleanor joined King's College London in October 2025. She is a PhD student within the Department of Psychological Medicine (Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience) at King's College London.

Eleanor holds BSc Psychology (First Class Honours) and MSc Health Psychology (Distinction) degrees, both from the University of Surrey. During her BSc degree, she completed a placement year as a Learning Support Worker for adults with autism, which involved collecting and analysing real life research data. After graduating, Eleanor worked at the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) as a Research Communications Manager. Over three years, she worked with patients and the public to understand their attitudes towards research and promote meaningful involvement in studies. These experiences have strengthened her commitment to co-production and its role in designing effective, trusted research.

Eleanor's PhD is titled SABRE: Symptom Appraisals and Behaviours in Relation to Emergencies. Her PhD brings together her background in psychology and health communication. She is investigating how people understand and attribute their symptoms during a respiratory infection outbreak, with a particular focus on parents and children, and developing clearer, targeted messaging to guide protective behaviours. Eleanor’s work reflects her long-term goal of becoming a Health Psychologist and contributing to more person-centred approaches in outbreak response.

Eleanor's principal supervisor is Professor G. James Rubin and her secondary supervisor is Dr Louise E. Smith.
