Biography

Emma Casey is a PhD student and is based in the NEST (Neurodevelopment, Epilepsy, Support & Trajectories) lab led by Dr Charlotte Tye, where she works primarily on the BEE and eLIXIR studies.

Emma’s research aims to integrate home-based developmental measures with electronic and video-based health records to identify early markers of developmental outcomes and allow better understanding of the impact of developmental difficulties in early onset epilepsy.

Emma’s PhD is funded by an MRC-DTP industrial CASE studentship in partnership with vCreate, and she will work with vCreate over the course of her PhD to determine feasibility of using machine learning approaches to assess development and behaviour in early onset epilepsy.

Emma holds BSc and MPharm degrees from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, a conversion degree in Psychology from the University of Edinburgh, and a masters in Psychological Science from University College Dublin.

She has previously worked as a community pharmacist and assistant psychologist, and volunteered as a support worker with ASSC (Accompaniment Support Services for Children) in Ireland.
