Biography
Estelia is a mixed-methods analyst specialising in science education, with a particular emphasis on environmental education and international educational development. Her research encompasses educational assessment, curriculum development, and learning progression. She investigates attitudes toward science and industry, as well as the intersections of capital science and social justice, through the framework of scientific literacy. Additionally, Estelia explores the teaching and assessment of complex biology topics, examining how these elements shape classroom environments. She also studies the role of evidence-based thinking within educational systems and broader change processes, fostering discussions with peers who share related research interests.
Research interests
Currently, she is involved in a comprehensive nationwide research initiative focused on examining the influence of sociodemographic factors—specifically socioeconomic status (SES) and geographic location—on teachers' methodologies in environmental education. As the importance of environmental education continues to grow in both policy and practice, the perspectives of teachers from your institution will be crucial in fostering a balanced and representative understanding of how to advance environmental education in the future.
Her primary research interests include teaching, learning, and assessing scientific concepts, as well as developing scientific literacy and enhancing practical educational experiences within the framework of environmental education. She has also conducted systematic reviews of existing research in both primary and secondary science education, analysing students' and teachers' attitudes and engagement, and evaluating curriculum development to refine classroom practices.
Furthermore, she investigates methodologies for understanding student learning trajectories, examines how subjects are comprehended across different educational levels, and seeks effective strategies to align research, policy, and practical application. She predominantly employs a mixed-methods approach that integrates qualitative and quantitative analyses, using tools such as NVivo, Qualtrics, SPSS, and RStudio throughout her academic career.
