
Gefan Wang

Biography
Gefan is a PhD student in Comparative Literature, Department of Languages, Literatures and Cultures. Their doctoral thesis, titled ‘Mapping Memory and Home in Post-War Literature: A Comparative Study of Ōe Kenzaburō’s Man’en Gan’nen no Futtoboru and Thomas Bernhard’s Auslöschung. Ein Zerfall’, compares the representations of memory and space in post-war Japanese and Austrian literature. Their broader research interests include literary cartography, modernism in East Asian contexts, fashion and textile histories, and gender and sexuality theories. Gefan has worked in various positions at King’s and beyond. They served on the board of PGR Events Committee in the Faculty of Arts and Humanities from 2022 to 2023. In 2024, they worked as Doctoral Researcher for a British Academy-commissioned research project on language skills in researchers. They have also contributed to numerous academic and social events organised by King’s Business School and by King’s Culture. Gefan is currently teaching as a GTA for the undergraduate module ‘Genres of World Literature’ in DLLC. Gefan is the recipient of the BAJS John Crump Studentship. They were also awarded a small research grant by the Faculty for their archival research at the Austrian National Library and the Literature Archive Salzburg in 2024.
