Biography
Hannah Schupfer is a Post-Doctoral Researcher at the Centre for Sustainable Business at King's Business School.
Hannah’s research focuses on organisational change and maintenance dynamics in the context of societal challenges. She examines how organisations navigate shifting societal expectations through processes of meaning-making, collective action, and innovation. Her work draws on organisation and management scholarship, particularly organisation theory and institutional theory, with a focus on framing, legitimacy, temporality, and green innovation.
Methodologically, Hannah specialises in qualitative research methods, combining archival research, interviews, and participant observations. Empirically, her research focuses on organisational responses to climate change in the energy industry and the purpose movement.
Her work on prognostic framing of climate solutions among incumbent firms has been awarded three Best Paper Awards, including the Academy of Management OMT Best Paper Award on Social and Environmental Practices, the GRONEN Research Conference, and the Ivey/ARCS PhD Sustainability Academy. Hannah’s work has been published in Industry and Innovation, Journal of Business Ethics, Research in the Sociology and Organisation (RSO), and the Academy of Management Journal.
Hannah received her PhD in Management from the University of Oslo, Norway, conducting research on corporate responses to rising sustainability pressures in the oil and gas industry. Her thesis has been awarded the 2025 Best Dissertation by the Academy of Management ONE Division. During her PhD, she spent several months as visiting scholar at the Institute for Organization Studies at WU Vienna and Cambridge University Judge Business School.
