Biography
Iyamide Thomas is a chemistry graduate of King’s College London. She joined the UK Sickle Cell Society in October 2004 as the Regional Care Advisor for South London. She is currently the Society’s NHS Engagement Lead, helping the NHS Sickle Cell and Thalassaemia Screening Programme improve their service provision and ensuring it is underpinned by service user needs. Additionally, Iyamide raises professional and public awareness of sickle cell disease and screening through educational talks, health promotion, information dissemination, and media.
Iyamide led the NHS Screening Programme’s outreach project which raised awareness of sickle cell disease, associated myths, and screening using a DVD called ‘The Family Legacy’. This outreach project is featured on the GOV.UK website to provide learning for those wanting to particularly do outreach in Black, Asian, and Minority Ethnic communities.
