
Biography
James Ellis is a PhD candidate at Royal Holloway University of London. His recent publication in the Journal of Sound and Music in Games is entitled “On the Trail of a Nostalgic Adventure: Identifying and Analyzing the Nostalgic Potential of Video Game Music in the Context of the Pokémon Franchise.” James’s musicological research centres on musical analysis with a focus on ludomusicology. He is particularly interested in the development of gestural theories of music for higher education settings and utilises this analytical approach in his own research. James has forthcoming articles in the Journal of the Royal Musical Association and chapters in two upcoming edited collections on audiovisual sound alongside historical musicology projects. He is guest co-editing a Special Issue on Ludomusicology and Value for JSMG. James is also an active pianist who teaches and regularly performs.
