Jasmine Handford

Clinical Database Manager for Head & Neck Cancer

  • PhD Student in Cancer Epidemiology

Biography

Jasmine joined the TOUR team in September 2021 as a Clinical Database Manager for Head and Neck Cancer within the Guy’s Cancer Real World Evidence Programme. In this role, she is responsible for developing a new clinical and research database for head & neck cancer at Guy’s and St Thomas’ (GSTT) NHS Foundation Trust. This project aims to ensure the collection of high-quality prospective data moving forwards, and she is concurrently working to transform the retrospective head & neck cancer data at the Trust. Over the past couple of years, Jasmine has set up additional RedCap-hosted projects for the head & neck cancer allied health team, facilitating the alignment of data collection across numerous parts of the patient pathway.

Jasmine continues to develop the technical skills required to query the back-end of many of the Trust’s electronic health systems in order to provide access to the structured data necessary for pan-cancer research and service evaluation projects. She is currently working with the Cogstack team to advance the application of Natural Language Processing software to unstructured cancer data held within the Trust too.

In October 2023, Jasmine began her PhD in head and neck cancer epidemiology under the supervision of Professor Mieke Van Hemelrijck, Dr Jean-Pierre Jeannon, and Dr Beth Russell. She will be due to complete in the summer of 2026.

Prior to joining the TOUR team, Jasmine completed her MSc in Cancer at University College London where she undertook a research project investigating the predictive value of minimal residual disease (MRD) in adult acute lymphoblastic leukaemia. She previously received her BA in Natural Sciences, specialising in Neurobiology, from the University of Cambridge in 2019.
