Dr. Kang’s research is situated at the intersection of oral health, systemic disease, and health data science. Her work focuses on the associations between periodontal disease and a range of chronic conditions, including cognitive decline, mental illness, and multimorbidity. She has extensive experience working with electronic health records and population-based data, and collaborates closely with King’s Clinical Trials Unit to support the design and implementation of clinical and intervention studies in oral health.
She has an internationally recognized track record of securing competitive research funding as both Principal Investigator and Co-Investigator. Her work has been supported by major funders including the NIHR, UKRI, Alzheimer’s Society, Stroke Association, Royal Society, Leeds Hospital Charity, and EU Horizon, as well as by industry partners.
Dr. Kang maintains a wide network of international collaborations and actively welcomes visiting research fellows to King’s. She also encourages prospective PhD students with an interest in interdisciplinary research—spanning dentistry, medicine, epidemiology, statistics, and public health—to enquire about opportunities within her team.
