
Biography
Joe is a consultant General Paediatrician at the Evelina London Children's Hospital and a Senior Clinical Lecturer at King's. Joe completed his medical degree at Imperial College, and clinical training in North London. He completed his PhD in Epidemiology at UCL in 2021 as part of an MRC Clinical Research Training Fellowship, exploring child and young person mortality in the UK compared with other high-income countries. He was appointed as an NIHR Clinical Lecturer in 2022 at UCL, before moving to King’s in 2025.
Joe's research interest is in public health epidemiology, with a focus on adolescent health. Prior work includes using linked Hospital Episode Statistics data to understand risk of serious illness due to COVID-19 amongst children and young people, and characterising hospital admissions due to mental health amongst young people as part of the Mental Health Admissions to Paediatric Wards study (MAPS).
Joe is also a Principal Collaborator for the Global Burden of Disease Study, and has been involved in multiple projects using GBD data. Other collaborators include the Murdoch Children's Research Institute (Melbourne), the Human Sciences Research Council (Cape Town), Imperial College and UCL.
He is a Commissioner for the 2025 Lancet Commission on Adolescent Health and Wellbeing, and part of the WHO Global Action for Measurement of Adolescent Health advisory group.
