Biography

Dr. Kaiyun Feng is a Lecturer in Education at King’s College London, specializing in Scholarship of Teaching and Learning, higher education policy, institutional management, and widening participation. Previously, she was a Researcher at the University of Cambridge, where she conducted sector-wide and institutional analyses of access and participation and evaluated the widening participation projects.

She earned her PhD from University College London (UCL) Institute of Education, where she investigated institutional strategies for undergraduate teaching in world-class universities across China, the UK, and Canada. Her doctoral research, published in Higher Education Quarterly (2024), examined the role of third-space professionals in undergraduate education, highlighting the intersection of managerial and academic logics in shaping teaching quality. She has also authored research reports on access and participation trends and students’ engagement. Her work has been presented at leading conferences such as SRHE, ASHE, and CHER. She is an active peer reviewer for Springer Nature Social Sciences, The Review of Higher Education and Journal of Higher Education Management, and serves on the editorial board of Higher Education Quarterly.

In addition to her research, she has extensive teaching experience, leading master’s and undergraduate seminars on social policy, higher education management, and research engagement,. She has also delivered guest lectures on qualitative research methodologies and higher education governance. Her teaching is informed by her research on the teaching-research nexus and academic career development, ensuring an evidence-based approach to pedagogy.
