Dr. VanBaak is a GP and Sports Medicine Physician with a background in clinical research. Her clinical specialty is women’s health in sports medicine. Before joining the EMBRACE Programme at King’s, she spent ten years as faculty at the University of Colorado, where she combined patient care with teaching and researching health and injury prevention in women athletes. Over years of practice she became convinced that many of the problems she was seeing could not be solved one patient at a time, and this led her to transition to a career in research. Within EMBRACE, her doctoral research examines whether physical activity captured by consumer wearables can serve as a valid predictor of metabolic health outcomes in pregnancy.
