Biography
Dr Katie Mckinnon is a Chadburn Clinical Lecturer in the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience, and a Neonatology Subspeciality Registrar in the London School of Paediatrics. She completed her medical training at the University of Oxford and University College London, and her PhD at the University of Edinburgh.
Dr Katie Mckinnon’s expertise includes neonatal neurology and neuroimaging, neurodevelopment, and health equity. Her research investigates how socioeconomic and environmental adversity interacts with medical vulnerabilities, in particular preterm birth, to impact neurodevelopment, physical health, mental health, and educational achievement. She is supervised by Professor Chiara Nosarti and Dr Divyangana Rakesh.
She is part of several national clinical research groups, including the British Association for Neonatal Neurodevelopmental Follow-Up (BANNFU), the Research, Evaluation, and Audit for Child Health (REACH) Network, and NeoTRIPs.
Dr Katie Mckinnon has received awards from the Women in Neuroscience UK, the Neonatal Society, and at the Clinical Academics in Training Annual Conference from the Academy of Medical Sciences.

Expertise and Public Engagement
Dr Katie Mckinnon has been interviewed about her research for STV News, Women in Neuroscience UK, and the “Two Paeds in a Pod” Podcast. She has been part of public lectures in the Edinburgh Science Festival and the Salvesen Mindroom Research Centre.
Beyond King’s College London, Dr Katie Mckinnon has other professional roles including Co-Lead for Research for the British Association of Neonatal Neurodevelopmental Follow-Up (BANNFU, a special interest group of the British Association of Perinatal Medicine, BAPM), Co-Lead for Communications for NeoTRIPs (a pan-UK neonatal resident doctor-led research network), a Local Lead and Project Lead for the Research, Evaluation, and Audit for Child Health Network (REACH, a pan-London paediatric resident doctor-led research network), and a Human Remains Supervisor in the Sedgeford Historical and Archaeological Research Project (SHARP).
