Dr Krunal Narendra Kumar

Advanced Therapies Production Scientist/ Research Associate

Biography

I hold a BSc (Hons) in Infection and Immunology from Aston University (2006–2010), including a professional placement year in ELISA Research and Development, followed by a PhD in Biomaterials at Birmingham Dental School (2010–2015). My doctoral research focused on developing methods to prevent and treat microbial colonisation of titanium dental implant surfaces, with my thesis available online.

Following my academic training,I transitioned into industry roles within small (Nemaura Pharma Limited, Loughborough, UK) and medium-sized GMP manufacturing facilities (Autolus Therapeutics PLC, Catapult Cell and Gene Therapy site, Stevenage, UK), supporting the establishment, implementation, and operation of cleanroom environments for pharmaceutical production. More recently, my work has focused on the rapidly expanding field of Advanced Therapy Medicinal Products (ATMPs).

My first role at King's College London involved product development, GMP manufacturing, and quality control testing of Ocular Cell and Gene Therapy ATMP within NHS cleanroom facilities at Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust. In my current position, based at the Denmark Hill site, I will be involved in the implementation and manufacture of Chimeric Antigen Receptor T-cell (CAR-T) therapies using an advanced single-use, fully closed automated platform, in collaboration with King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust.
