Biography

Kyla Muñoz is a Research Assistant in the GeoAI and Health Equity Lab (GAHEL) with interests in spatial epidemiology, social determinants of health, and novel data sharing methods. 

She earned a Master of Public Health degree from the Colorado School of Public Health (University of Colorado-Anschutz) and a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Prior to joining GAHEL, Kyla worked 5 years as an epidemiologist in the state of Colorado serving local and state health departments, managing and analysing syndromic surveillance (near-real-time emergency department) data. With GAHEL, Kyla will lead the development of a database for GeoAI-driven infectious disease detection and contribute to research on disease risk and inequity to inform disease mapping and modeling.

Kyla is most interested in projects that relate spatial epidemiology with health equity, environmental health, and infectious disease. Her previous research and work on conference abstracts and grey papers involved health equity and identifying at-risk populations for suicide and violence prevention, overdose, and infectious diseases.
