Biography

Dr Lerong Lu is a Reader in Law and the Director of Postgraduate Studies at The Dickson Poon School of Law, King’s College London. He also serves as the pathway lead for the LLM in Law & Technology programme. 

Dr Lu is an expert in International Financial Law and Fintech Regulation. He is the author of two books: Global Fintech Revolution (Oxford University Press, 2024) and Private Lending in China (Routledge, 2019). He has published extensively in the fields of corporate and financial law, authoring over 40 articles in edited books and academic journals. His insights on international financial markets have been featured in reputable media outlets such as the BBC and The Wall Street Journal.

Dr Lu serves as the Associate Editor and is a member of the editorial board for the Journal of Law, Ethics & Technology. He holds various external and consultative roles in the UK and internationally, including serving as an External Examiner for Warwick University Law School, an advisor to the Law Society of England and Wales (on Lawtech training courses for solicitors), and an advisor to the Saudi Arabian government (on corporate and financial law reforms). 

Prior to his current position, Dr Lu was a Lecturer in Law at the University of Bristol. He holds a PhD and an LLM (with Distinction) from the University of Leeds. He is a Fellow of the UK Higher Education Academy (FHEA). Dr Lu graduated from the East China University of Political Science and Law with bachelor’s degrees in law and economics.

Research interests

Dr Lu’s research interests lie in the fields of international financial law, particularly in the regulation of banks, capital markets, and financial technologies (Fintech).

He supervises PhD students who write their theses on cutting-edge issues in corporate and financial law, including the regulation of central bank digital currencies (CBDCs), dual-class share structures (DCSS), directors and officers (D&O) insurance, and the reform of listing rules in the UK and globally.

Dr Lu welcomes enquiries from prospective PhD students interested in researching the areas of Law and Finance or Law and Technology. He has successfully supported four of his PhD students in securing fully-funded PhD scholarships.
