Biography

Dr Lerong Lu is Senior Lecturer in Law and the Director of LLM Law & Technology at the Dickson Poon School of Law, King’s College London. He specialises in international financial law and technology law.

Prior to joining King’s, Dr Lu taught law as Lecturer at the University of Bristol. He holds a PhD in Law and an LLM (with Distinction) from the University of Leeds, and obtained his Bachelor of Laws and Bachelor of Economics degrees from the East China University of Political Science and Law. He is a fellow of the UK Higher Education Academy (FHEA).

At King’s, Dr Lu also serves as the director for joint-degree programmes with top law schools in Asia, including LLB English Law & Hong Kong Law (CUHK/HKU), LLB English Law & Singapore Law (NUS), and Chinese Law Partnerships (Peking/Tsinghua).

Research interests

Dr Lu’s research interests lie in the fields of international financial law, in particular, the regulation of banks, capital markets, and financial technologies (FinTech). He has published extensively in these areas, including 30 journal articles and a monograph.

Dr Lu has been invited to present research papers at international conferences held in the UK, the US, China, and Singapore. He often receives interviews from influential media outlets such as the Wall Street Journal to comment on the latest developments of global financial industries. He is a frequent contributor to reputable online law blogs published by Columbia Law School, Duke Law School, and Oxford University.

Dr Lu has been supervising PhD students who write their theses on cutting-edge issues in corporate and financial law, including the regulation of central bank digital currencies (CBDC), dual-class share structure (DCSS), and directors and officers (D&O) insurance.

He welcomes enquiries from prospective PhD students who intend to research in the areas of law and finance or law and technology. He has supported three of his PhD students in the successful application of fully-funded PhD scholarships offered by CSC and Russel Group universities.
