Thesis title: 'Sino-Brazilian Economic Relations and Their Effects on Brazil’s Agribusiness: Essays on Trade, Investment, and Economic Complexity'
China's rapid growth over the last four decades has led to a reorganization of global value chains, altering the course of global development. For emerging and developing economies, this has led to the emergence of new challenges and opportunities. On the one hand, China's economic expansion has translated into fierce competition for the supply of manufactured products in global markets; on the other, it has become the main trading partner for most countries in the world, accounting for 14% of international trade, demanding increasing quantities of energy, and food, and raw materials. In this context, this research investigates the effects of the strengthening of Sino-Brazilian economic ties in Brazil’s agribusiness productive structure, particularly productivity, FDI-export nexus, and regional inequalities.
