Mario Saborido Beltrán MScR

Originally from Cádiz, Spain, Mario Saborido Beltrán is a Tutor in Spanish at King’s College London. Since 2021, he has been teaching Spanish online as part of KCL’s Language Centre team. Mario has extensive teaching experience, having taught Spanish for organisations including the Instituto Cervantes and the City of Edinburgh Council.

Mario holds an undergraduate degree in English Studies from the University of Granada. After an Erasmus exchange at the University of East Anglia, he decided to complete an MScR in Applied Linguistics at Nebrija University, Madrid, investigating the teaching of Spanish as a foreign language. Currently, he is both a tutor in Spanish and fourth-year PhD student in Hispanic Studies at the University of Edinburgh. His current research looks at students’ language beliefs and attitudes towards the dialectal varieties of European Spanish and phenomena of phonetic variation, such as ceceo, seseo and distinción.

Mario’s research interests encompass various topics within the fields of Spanish language and Hispanic linguistics, such as phonetics and phonology, sociolinguistics, dialectology, pragmatics, the history of language and Spanish language teaching.
