Biography

Dr Mary-Claire Travers was educated in both the UK and Australia. She has an MA and a PhD from King’s College London (KCL) after completing a Bachelor of Education, a Post Graduate Diploma in Educational Studies and being awarded a scholarship to do an MA in Education in Australia.

Mary-Claire began her career as a teacher having taught in both the UK and Australia. She has worked in higher education at the IOE, UCL and King's College London, where she is currently a visiting lecturer.

She has been involved in mentoring teachers in schools in low socio-economic areas of England which have low university participation rates. She has published a unique book on a longitudinal qualitative study of success factors for working-class boys in education, continues to be a guest lecturer on underprivileged children's academic achievement at various higher education institutions and speaks on the subject in many different forums and conferences. She firmly believes that education is the key to transforming lives all over the world.
