Dr Olakunle Oginni PhD

Postdoctoral Research Associate

Biography

I first learnt about the twin design during my MSc in Genes, Environment and Development at the SGDP, KCL. For my PhD, I used various twin models (in combination with Polygenic scores) to investigate mediation and causal relationships between sexual minority status and adverse mental and physical health indices; and moderation of these relationships by childhood factors. Currently, I practise as a psychiatrist in Nigeria and lecture undergraduate medical students.

Research Interests:

  • Behaviour genetics
  • Twin modelling
  • Structural equation modelling
  • Sexual orientation and mental health
  • Developmental psychopathology

Awards:

  • The Chevening scholarship for a Master’s in the UK (2015)
  • The Commonwealth PhD scholarship (2018-2021)
  • The 2018-2019 King’s College London African Community of Practice Outstanding Achievement Award
