Peter Baudains is a Research Software Engineer specialising in Visual Analytics and joined Advanced Research Computing in 2024.

He received his PhD from UCL in 2015, which explored different approaches to modelling human social systems, with a focus on problems in Security and Crime Science. He has over five years of experience as a data scientist and product engineer in the payments industry, designing and developing machine learning approaches to detect and prevent fraud.

Before joining King’s, Peter was a Research Data Scientist at the Consumer Data Research Centre, University of Leeds, where he led the Research Data Science team in the development of derived data products for open use.

Peter currently works on projects exploring perceptual and cognitive aspects of visualisation, with a particular focus on how visualisation is used to support decision-making in time-sensitive industry settings such as control rooms.
