Professor Peter West is an Emeritus Professor in Theoretical Physics in the Department of Mathematics at King's College London.

Peter West came to Kings in 1978, about 50 years ago. He created the group working on fundamental physics, especially supersymmetry and string theory, in the Mathematics Department. Over a number of years he also played a key role in the development of the Mathematics Department.

While at Kings he also held, at various times, positions at Stony Brook at The State University of New York, the California Institute of Technology, the Chalmers Institute of Technology in Goteborg and the Erwin Schrödinger International Institute for Mathematical Physics in Vienna.

Research

Peter West is a theoretical physicist who is a pioneer of the theory of supersymmetry and its application to the construction of unified theories of all the fundamental particle interactions. His results have become cornerstones of the modern theory of uperstrings and associated branes. He is a fellow of the Royal Society, the Institute of Physics and King’s College. He is currently working on the symmetries which must underlie a fundamental, consistent, unified theory of physics. Some websites containing more information are:
