Biography

Sarah’s PhD is focused on the health and well-being of UK LGBT+ serving and ex-serving military members in the post-LGBT+ ban era (read more here). Her PhD supervisors are Dr. Rachael Gribble, Dr. Marie-Louise Sharp, and Dr. Howard Burdett. The Royal British Legion is the external partner.

 

Prior to beginning her PhD in October 2023, Sarah worked as a Research Assistant for KCMHR and ADMMH. She graduated with distinction from the War and Psychiatry Master’s programme at King’s in 2022, where her dissertation examined the final withdrawal of troops from Afghanistan and its psychological impacts on UK military personnel and veterans.

 

Sarah has also worked for the Department of Veterans Affairs in the US in multiple capacities, including researching suicidality and suicide prevention in veteran populations. She holds a BA (Hons) in Psychology with a minor in Law, Justice, and Social Control from Chapman University in California, where her thesis focused on comparing exposure-based and non-exposure-based treatments for trauma in veteran populations.
