Lecturer in Adult Nursing
Sarah has a background in adult nursing, public health and nursing education. She initially completed a BSc in Psychology before undertaking a Postgraduate Diploma in Adult Nursing and qualifying as a registered adult nurse. She later completed postgraduate study in public health and Specialist Community Public Health Nursing (SCPHN) Health Visiting and holds the V100 Community Practitioner Nurse Prescribing qualification.
Sarah worked as a Health Visitor before transitioning into higher education and academia. She has previously worked as a Lecturer on undergraduate pre-registration nursing programmes in both the UK and Bahrain, giving her experience of nursing education across different international and cultural contexts.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Sarah contributed to the public health response through bank work with NHS Test and Trace, while also returning to clinical practice to support health visiting services.
Sarah is a Fellow of Advance HE, recognising her commitment to teaching and learning in higher education. Her academic and research interests include perinatal mental health, fathers and fatherhood, and cultural exchange programmes within nursing education.
Sarah's Master's dissertation explored the transition to fatherhood, which she subsequently published in a peer-reviewed journal. She is currently undertaking a PhD in Sociology, further developing this area of research by exploring the transition to fatherhood and fathers' experiences of infant care, with a particular focus on infant safe sleep.
Alongside her own research, Sarah has supported undergraduate nursing students to develop their dissertation work for publication in peer-reviewed journals, reflecting her commitment to developing students' engagement with research and evidence-based practice.
Sarah is passionate about supporting nursing students to become compassionate, reflective practitioners and critical thinkers.
