Professor Sean Whittaker

Professor of Cutaneous Oncology

Biography

Professor Sean Whittaker is a Consultant Dermatologist at St Johns Institute of Dermatology, Guys and St Thomas’ Hospital, with clinical and academic interests in cutaneous lymphomas and melanoma. He was appointed Professor of Cutaneous Oncology in the School of Medical and Biosciences Division of Genetics and Molecular Medicine at Kings College London in 2007, and has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals on the molecular pathogenesis of cutaneous lymphomas. He is currently Medical Director for the NHSE South East England Genomic Medicine Service Alliance and Genomic Laboratory Hub and is Co-Director of the King's Health Partners (KHP) Comprehensive Cancer Centre. His previous leadership roles include Clinical Director for the Specialist Ambulatory Directorate at Guys and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust ; Co-Lead for the Genetics, Rheumatology, Infection, Immunology and Dermatology (GRIID) Clinical Academic Group at KHP; NHS England Clinical Reference Group (CRG) Chair and Lead for Skin Cancer; Chair of the European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC) Cutaneous Lymphoma Task Force; and President of the International Society of Cutaneous Lymphomas (ISCL).

Skin Tumour Unit

Cutaneous T-cell lymphomas present a model for the malignant transformation of skin resident T-cells. We have a large tissue biobank with clinical outcome data which has allowed us to define the genomic landscape of cutaneous T-cell lymphomas.
