
Biography
Dr Sheila McSweeney is an NIHR Clinical Lecturer at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and King’s College London. She completed her PhD at King’s College London and has undertaken masters-level training in genomic medicine at the University of Cambridge and in clinical trials at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.
Her research focuses on the genetic and molecular mechanisms underlying photosensitive and immune-mediated skin diseases, integrating multi-omic and clinical data analyses to identify novel therapeutic strategies. Her recent work explores the pathogenesis of solar urticaria and related disorders, aiming to bridge molecular discoveries with translational impact for patients.
Dr McSweeney has received national and international awards for her research, including fellowships from the Medical Research Council, the British Skin Foundation, and the Fondation René Touraine. She is also actively involved in teaching and mentorship within dermatology.
