Shuyuan Zhang earned his Bachelor’s degree in Food Science from the University of Reading and Master’s degree in Food Security from the University of Glasgow. He now understands that flavour transcends the realm of food products, encompassing a broader perspective that includes the brain, psychology, nerves, and the oral cavity.

Currently, Shuyuan's research is centered on host-based flavour, with a specific focus on investigating the impact of oral microbiota on taste. He is supervised by Professor Guy Carpenter and Dr Saeed Shoaie.
