Biography

My research focuses on practices of refusal, community building, and future making across social groups, and temporal and geographic boundaries.I am currently developing a monograph entitled "Irrepressible Futures: Black Refusal and Prefiguration in Contemporary France" which interrogates developments in black cultural practices in France over the past decade. I am also working on two subsequent projects, one exploring the idea of children's resistance from a children's liberation perspective, and the other tracing the role of cultural practices and nightlife in the West African migrant worker's activist practices and community building in France in the 1970s and 1980s.Before joining KCL, I was the Lumley Research Fellow at Magdalene College, University of Cambridge, where I also completed my doctorate in Sociology.
