Biography
Sun Bin Kim is a PhD student in the Department of Biostatistics & Health Informatics at King's College London, where he joined in June 2024. Based at the Social, Genetic & Developmental Psychiatry Centre, his current research focuses on building multimodal deep learning survival analysis models to predict the onset of psychosis based on transdiagnostic processes.
His areas of expertise span computational psychiatry and clinical prediction modeling, with particular specialization in machine learning, deep learning, survival analysis, and risk prediction for mental health outcomes. He has demonstrated significant proficiency in developing neural network architectures for complex clinical applications and biostatistical modeling.
Before joining King's, he conducted extensive research at Genoplan Korea Inc., where he served as an AI Scientist for over five years. During this period, he developed advanced deep learning models for disease risk prediction and clinical outcome forecasting. Prior to this, he worked as a Research Assistant in the Department of Informatics at Korea University, where he conducted focused research on Explainable Artificial Intelligence models for facial expression recognition, contributing to applications in behavioral and psychological assessment.
He holds a Master of Science degree in Computer Science from Korea University, where his thesis examined explainable deep learning models for facial expression recognition. He also earned a Bachelor of Science in Statistics from Korea National Open University, and a dual Bachelor of Science degree in Architecture and Civil Engineering & Computer Science from Korea University. During his time at Korea University, he served as a Teaching Assistant for courses including Computational Thinking, Artificial Intelligence, and Machine Learning.
