Biography

Dr Stephenson is a clinical academic in forensic psychiatry within the FANS department. He first joined the department in 2021, and since October 2024 is completing a PhD within the FANS department with funding from an NIHR Doctoral Fellowship. He teaches on the Forensic Mental Health MSc and is a Specialist Trainee on the South London Forensic Psychiatry higher training scheme.

He is the Chief Investigator for the SHAPE study, a multi-centre mixed methods study of the role of environmental factors in self-harm behaviours amongst people in prison.

Research Interests

Dr Stephenson's research involves using mixed methods to explore the role of within-prison factors in self-harm behaviours amongst people in prison with a view to developing tools to support effective clinical assessment and management and prevention strategies for this population.
