Biography
Tobias is a Senior Lecturer at King’s College London and Director of the Anglo-German LL.B. and LL.M. programmes. He joined King’s in 2019 after holding positions at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin and Hokkaido University. He has given visiting lectures at numerous universities, including the Universidad de Puerto Rico, the Universitat de Barcelona and Goethe-Universität Frankfurt am Main, on subjects such as International Sales Law, International Arbitration, International Dispute Resolution and Negotiation.
Tobias studied Law and Economics at Eberhard Karls Universität Tübingen and Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin and completed his German legal training (Referendariat) at the Kammergericht Berlin with stages in Stuttgart and New York. He is a German-qualified lawyer and advises clients on international disputes in courts and before arbitral tribunals.
Tobias is also co-founder of the project https://lexmea.de, an online database designed to facilitate education and daily work related to German Law.
Research interests
Tobias' research focuses on international dispute resolution, including the substantive and procedural frameworks for solving cross-border disputes through negotiation, mediation, arbitration and state court litigation. He also researches the psychological mechanisms that affect parties and their agents during the course of controversies.
Tobias was on the editorial board of the International Arbitration Law Review and of the Vindobona Journal of International Commercial Law and Arbitration and has been a longstanding supporter of the Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot. He is a member of the German Arbitration Institution (DIS) and of Deutscher Juristentag e.V. He also serves on the Advisory Board of the Moot Alumni Association of the Willem C. Vis Moot and chairs the Humboldt Moot Association.
