Research Associate

Biography

Dr Wasana Kalansooriya is a Research Associate in Health Economics at King’s College London. She holds a PhD in Health Economics from City, University of London, and both Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Economics. Prior to joining King’s College London, she worked as a Lecturer in Economics at the University of Sri Jayewardenepura in Sri Lanka.

Dr Wasana Kalansooriya's research focuses on the intersection of health economics and public policy, with particular interest in the long-term economic and health outcomes of chronic conditions. She is currently working on projects examining resource use for home care among stroke survivors, the impact of early supported discharge on stroke outcomes and the long-term costs of stroke care.

Her work is quantitative and data-driven, using econometric methods and longitudinal data to produce evidence that can inform healthcare policy and clinical practice. She has also conducted research on a range of topics including the labour market impacts of non-communicable diseases and COVID-19, the economics of nutrition and healthy diet choices, urban food security and gender dynamics and the financial burden of healthcare in low- and middle-income countries, particularly in Sri Lanka.

Her research aims to support policymakers and healthcare professionals in designing equitable and effective healthcare systems.
