Biography
William primarily supports airborne and ground-based research campaigns through the deployment, operation, and maintenance of remote sensing and in-situ instrumentation. Since joining the group in May 2025, he has worked on European Space Agency (ESA) research projects, Carbon-Atmosphere Research in the Amazon (CarbonARA), MELA-SUPFIX, and UK-based testing of atmospheric and remote sensing instrumentation.
With a background in ecology and forestry, William completed an MRes studying tropical peat-swamp forest regeneration, in Indonesia, before moving into a range of scientific support roles across academia and the civil service.
His research experience spans field-based environmental science and laboratory-based molecular biology, in both a technical and operational capacity.
When not on field campaigns, William supports the operation of the group's laboratory facilities at Rothamsted Research in Harpenden. Here, his work is focussed on the development of airborne and field installations, instrument calibration and testing, UAV operations, and the groups experimental fire science in the Combustion Chamber facility.
